On a cold December evening in Upland, Indiana, the life of 18-year-old Khloe Martin was tragically cut short. On December 30, 2020, Khloe was at her boyfriend's home when multiple gunshots were fired into the residence from outside. She was struck in the chest and, despite being rushed to the hospital, succumbed to her injuries. Her boyfriend was also wounded in the shooting but survived. Khloe, a vibrant young woman who had just turned 18 and was about to graduate high school, was remembered for her contagious laughter and fierce loyalty to her loved ones.
The investigation into the senseless act of violence quickly led authorities to a suspect, 17-year-old Seth Taylor Workman. The motive for the shooting appeared to be rooted in a previous incident. Earlier that same day, Workman had expressed his intent to 'shoot up' the residence of Khloe's boyfriend. This animosity stemmed from a burglary a month prior, in which Workman had been involved.
Seth Taylor Workman was arrested and charged as an adult with murder, attempted murder, and several other related offenses. During his trial in February 2023, the jury found him guilty on all remaining charges. On April 12, 2023, Workman was sentenced for his crimes. For the murder of Khloe Martin, he received a sentence of fifty-five years. He was also sentenced to thirty years for the attempted murder of her boyfriend. The judge ordered these sentences to be served consecutively, resulting in an aggregate sentence of eighty-five years of incarceration.
