In the early hours of a cold January morning in Indianapolis, a violent encounter set in motion a chain of events that would ultimately lead to the death of a young man. Jesus Medrano, a 23-year-old male, was shot on Sunday, January 24, 2021. The incident occurred just after 2 a.m. in the 7000 block of Graham Road. Medics arrived to find Medrano critically injured and transported him to a local hospital.
For three weeks, Medrano fought for his life, but his injuries proved to be too
severe. On Sunday, February 14, 2021, he succumbed to the gunshot wound and passed away at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital. His death was investigated by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department's homicide detectives.
In the days following the shooting, a suspect was identified and taken into custody. Imane McRae, a 22-year-old woman from Indianapolis, was arrested on Monday, January 25, 2021. The Marion County Prosecutor's Office initially charged her with attempted murder. Following Medrano's death, the legal proceedings against McRae continued. Ultimately, the attempted murder charge was dismissed, and she was found not guilty of voluntary manslaughter.
