In the summer of 2021, a young Black man named Larry Brown Jr., a 20-year-old resident of Chicago, found his life cut tragically short. The evening of July 3rd was meant to be one of celebration at Memorial Park in Hammond, Indiana, where a large crowd had gathered for the Hammond Day Festival. Just after 11 p.m., the festive atmosphere in the 5900 block of Wallace Road was shattered by the sound of gunfire.
