The evening of July 3rd was meant to be one of celebration at Memorial Park in Hammond, Indiana, where a large crowd had gathered for the Hammond Day Festival. Just after 11 p.m., the festive atmosphere in the 5900 block of Wallace Road was shattered by the sound of gunfire.
When the chaos subsided, it was discovered that four people had been shot.
Larry Brown Jr. and another man, 26-year-old Blake Blakemore of Gary, succumbed to their injuries at the hospital. Two other victims of the shooting were reported to be in stable condition.
