On a busy Friday afternoon in East Chicago, Indiana, the life of 23-year-old Antoine Romell Moore Jr., a Black male, was tragically cut short. On November 26, 2021, at approximately 4:00 PM, Moore and a companion, 24-year-old Basha Woods of Chicago, were near the intersection of 139th Street and Main Street. The bustling downtown street, filled with shoppers and pedestrians, became the backdrop for a sudden and violent ambush.
According to preliminary information from law enforcement and
eyewitnesses, Moore and Woods were possibly filming a rap video near a Jeep when three assailants opened fire. The attack was captured on multiple city and business surveillance cameras. The East Chicago Police's shot spotter technology registered 23 rapid-fire shots, a number that police believe may not fully capture the barrage of bullets, as over 50 evidence markers were placed at the scene surrounding the targeted Jeep.
When police arrived, they found both Moore and Woods suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Woods was pronounced dead at the scene. Paramedics transported Moore to St. Catherine Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
