In the winter of 2021, a quiet street on the near east side of Indianapolis became the scene of a somber discovery. On the morning of Saturday, December 11, officers from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were dispatched to a residence in the 2900 block of Brookside Avenue. Inside, they found 44-year-old Tuan Anh Nguyen, a male resident of Westfield, unresponsive and bearing signs of apparent trauma.
Emergency medical personnel arrived at the home, but it was too late. Mr.
Nguyen was pronounced dead at the scene, leaving behind a family grieving a sudden and violent loss. He was born in Ba Ria, Vietnam, on April 11, 1977, and had built a life in Indiana, working for over 15 years as a manicurist. He was a husband and a father to a son and a daughter.
Initially, the circumstances surrounding his death were unclear, but the Marion County Coroner's Office would later rule his death a homicide, caused by a gunshot wound. This determination officially launched a homicide investigation by the IMPD.
Detectives began the arduous process of piecing together the events that led to the fatal shooting. They appealed to the public for any information that might lead to a breakthrough in the case.
