In the early morning hours of Christmas Day, a life was tragically cut short in East Chicago, Indiana. Eric R. Douglas, a 32-year-old male, was found deceased outside of Ralo's Bar located at 3948 Alder Street. The incident, which occurred around 1:46 a.m. on December 25, 2021, is being investigated as a homicide. Responding officers discovered Mr.
Douglas lying face down, having been shot in the head in what has been described as an execution-style killing.
Surveillance footage from the bar captured the moments leading up to the fatal shooting. The video reportedly shows Eric Douglas inside the establishment wearing a red shirt, in the company of the man believed to be his shooter, who was wearing a striped top. Shortly after the two men exited the bar, the footage shows the suspect drawing a weapon and firing at Douglas through the window. Despite this video evidence, the investigation has been met with significant challenges.
When law enforcement arrived at the scene, the door to the bar was locked, and patrons inside were uncooperative, refusing to allow officers entry. This lack of witness cooperation has been a persistent obstacle for the East Chicago Police Department. Investigators had to obtain a search warrant to retrieve the complete surveillance footage from the bar's owner. Although the evidence was sent to a forensic lab for analysis, no arrests have been made in connection with the murder. The case remains open and unsolved, with police appealing to the public for any information that might lead to a resolution.
