On a winter morning in Indianapolis, a welfare check requested by concerned family members led to a tragic discovery. On January 7, 2022, police entered a residence in the 6100 block of Nelson Place to find the bodies of 29-year-old Latia Scott and 30-year-old Dewayne Autman. Both had sustained fatal gunshot wounds.
Initially, the circumstances surrounding their deaths were unclear. However, as the investigation progressed, a somber narrative emerged.
Family members informed investigators that Scott and Autman had been in a relationship. This detail became crucial as the Marion County Coroner's Office conducted its examination.
Ultimately, the coroner's office ruled the incident a murder-suicide. Investigators concluded that Dewayne Autman shot and killed Latia Scott before turning the gun on himself. As Autman was identified as the sole perpetrator, no arrests were made in connection with Scott's death, and the case was subsequently closed.
