On the night of October 28, 2025, a violent domestic disturbance unfolded at a residence in the 1400 block of West 34th Street in Indianapolis, Indiana. The incident centered around 26-year-old female Ashley Renea Sanders and her boyfriend, 38-year-old Steven Baker Jr., who shared the home. According to reports, the situation escalated late in the evening when Baker began exhibiting erratic behavior, pacing the floors and making disturbing statements about the end of the world.
Witnesses, including Baker’s teenage son who was present in the home, later described the suspect as appearing to be in a state of mental distress or under the influence, at one point holding a firearm to his own head and declaring that the day marked their 'death day.'
As the events intensified, Baker allegedly directed his aggression toward Sanders, who was six weeks pregnant with his child. He confronted her, making incoherent accusations and referring to her as 'the devil' because she was wearing a red tank top. The confrontation turned physical when Baker struck her in the face with the weapon. Terrified, Sanders attempted to flee toward a back bedroom to escape the assault, but Baker pursued her and opened fire.
