On February 6, 2024, 18-year-old Lashelle Rene Hewlett was fatally shot outside the Hawthorne Apartments in the 5300 block of East 32nd Street, near Emerson and Massachusetts avenues on Indianapolis's east side. The incident occurred around 4:15 p.m. when officers responded to multiple calls of shots being fired in the area.
