On the evening of March 19, 2022, in Indianapolis, Indiana, 18-year-old Boi Nge was fatally shot in a violent incident that also resulted in the death of 21-year-old Thawng Ceu. Both Nge and Ceu were members of the Chin community, an ethnic group with origins in Myanmar. The shooting occurred near the Arthur Baxter branch of the YMCA, located at the intersection of Shelby Street and Stop 11 Road on the south side of the city.
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers were
dispatched to the scene following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered both Boi Nge and Thawng Ceu suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite the efforts of emergency medical personnel, both young men were pronounced dead at the scene. The incident shocked the local Chin community, who described such violent acts as a rare occurrence within their population.
Further investigation into the double homicide revealed that a third person was also shot during the incident. This individual sustained injuries but survived and received treatment at a local hospital. As the investigation has continued, law enforcement officials have not yet made any arrests in connection with the killings.
