On April 17, 2022, a violent incident occurred in Evansville, Indiana, resulting in the death of 50-year-old Thomas R. James. Officers from the Evansville Police Department were dispatched to an apartment complex located on West Mill Road following reports of a disturbance. Upon their arrival at the scene, law enforcement discovered a chaotic environment where a physical altercation had evidently escalated into a deadly shooting.
Investigators determined that James had been involved in a
confrontation with another man, identified as 43-year-old Vito Acardo Allen. The dispute between the two individuals turned physical before firearms were drawn, leading to an exchange of gunfire. Allen was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders. Thomas R. James, suffering from critical injuries, was treated by medical personnel and rushed to a local hospital, where he subsequently succumbed to his wounds.
The Evansville Police Department launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the double homicide. After reviewing the evidence, authorities concluded that the shooting was the result of a mutual combat situation between the two men. Detectives stated that both James and Allen had assaulted one another during the fight.
