On the afternoon of April 22, 2022, tragedy struck in the 3300 block of West St. Clair Street on the near west side of Indianapolis, Indiana. Just around 5:00 p.m., the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department received reports of a shooting in the area. Officers arriving at the scene discovered a young man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
Emergency medical personnel transported the victim to a local hospital in critical condition, but despite life-saving efforts, he succumbed to his injuries a short time later.
The Marion County Coroner’s Office subsequently identified the victim as 19-year-old Jahmal Houston, a Black male. His death was officially ruled a homicide, marking a violent end to the week in the city. Following the shooting, homicide detectives began an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident, which was later described by authorities as a fatal robbery.
In early May 2022, the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office announced significant developments in the case. As a result of the investigation, charges were filed against two individuals in connection with Houston's death. Anthony Spearmon and Comfort Glass were charged on May 3 for their alleged roles in the robbery and subsequent killing. Police officials credited witness cooperation and forensic firearm examinations as key components in advancing the investigation and securing the charges against the suspects.
