In the late morning of November 29, 2024, the east side of Indianapolis was shattered by violence. Responding to reports of a shooting at approximately 11:30 a.m. in the 2100 block of Braeburn East Drive, near the intersection of East 21st Street and Post Road, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers arrived to a grim scene. They discovered 22-year-old Darius Thompson on the sidewalk, suffering from gunshot wounds.
Despite the immediate response from emergency medical services, his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. The Marion County Coroner's Office later confirmed his identity and ruled his death a homicide.
Darius, a Black male, was remembered by his family as a man full of life who was deeply protective of his mother and sisters. He had a passion for music, performing under the name 'Bandman Darius,' and harbored dreams of making his mark in the music industry. His family said he was eagerly anticipating the birth of his child, who he would now never meet. He had accepted Christ early in his life and was baptized at Greater St. James M.B.C.
As of late December 2024, the investigation into Darius Thompson's murder is ongoing. Detectives with the Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency processed the scene for evidence. However, no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified in connection with the shooting. The IMPD continues to appeal to the public for any information that may lead to the apprehension of those responsible for his death, urging anyone with knowledge of the case to come forward.
