In the summer of 2022, a life was tragically cut short in what has been described as a random act of violence. Jon Paul James Senour, a 55-year-old male resident of South Bend, Indiana, was killed on Wednesday, July 13, 2022. He was a father, grandfather, son, and brother who had spent his entire life in the South Bend area. Known for his generosity, he was often willing to help others, even if it meant putting himself at risk.
On that Wednesday morning, an incident of road rage is
believed to have led to the fatal encounter. Senour was driving near the 1900 block of South Michigan Street when his vehicle reportedly turned abruptly in front of a green Chevy Tahoe, causing the driver of the Tahoe to brake sharply. The Tahoe then followed Senour's car into a nearby alley. Two men exited the Tahoe and approached Senour's vehicle. One of these men, later identified as 23-year-old Antonio White of Elkhart, opened fire, shooting Senour multiple times. Jon Senour was found deceased, slumped over the wheel of his car.
The investigation into the shooting utilized surveillance footage and witness accounts to identify the suspect vehicle and ultimately, the perpetrator. Antonio White was identified as the shooter and was charged with murder. At the time the charges were filed, White was already incarcerated in Elkhart County for an unrelated offense. In November 2023, Antonio White was convicted for the murder of Jon Senour and was sentenced to a total of 75 years in prison. The sentence consisted of 60 years for the murder charge with an additional 15 years for a firearm enhancement, bringing a measure of justice to the family and community affected by this senseless act of violence.
