In the late summer of 2022, a meeting arranged between two teenagers over the sale of a firearm took a fatal turn, ending the life of 19-year-old Marcos A. Martinez of Merrillville, Indiana. A Hispanic male, Martinez had connected with Elijah Davis, also 19 at the time, through a mutual friend for the purpose of purchasing a gun.
