Jonas Smith, a 17-year-old resident of Merrillville, Indiana, tragically lost his life on October 3, 2019. He was found with gunshot wounds in the 4000 block of West 73rd Avenue. Authorities responded to the scene early in the morning, and he was pronounced dead at 5:55 a.m. by the Lake County Coroner's Office. His death was ruled a homicide.
