In the late hours of a summer night in Indianapolis, a promising life was tragically cut short, setting in motion a chain of events that would culminate in a lengthy prison sentence for the man responsible. Simmie Poetsema, a 26-year-old male and a member of the Dutch Commando Corps, was in the city for training exercises. On August 27, 2022, he and his fellow soldiers were enjoying a night off in the city's entertainment district, a brief respite from their rigorous duties.
