Logan Ian Nussbaum, an 18-year-old male, was killed on Saturday, October 15, 2022, in Elkhart, Indiana. He was driving in the 1200 block of Burr Oak Place on the city's south side at approximately 2:45 p.m. when he suffered a fatal gunshot wound. After being shot, his vehicle crashed into two parked cars and a line of trees. First responders pronounced him dead at the scene.
A recent graduate of Bethany Christian Schools, Nussbaum had started a job at the Meijer Distribution Facility in Middlebury. He was known for his empathetic nature and his ability to connect with a wide range of people.
The Elkhart Police Department's investigation into the shooting led them to identify 15-year-old Correon Meux of Elkhart as the suspect. Meux was accused of shooting Nussbaum while he was driving, which led to the fatal crash. Due to his admission of gang affiliation and the serious nature of the crime, Meux's case was transferred to the adult court system.
In December 2023, Correon Meux entered into a plea agreement, admitting his guilt in the murder of Logan Nussbaum. As a result of the agreement, he faced a maximum sentence of 85 years in prison, which included a cap of 60 years for the murder charge and an additional penalty for the use of a firearm.
