It was November 22, 2022, and it would be the last time his mother, Sierra Miles, would see him alive. When he didn't return home, a sense of unease grew within her, which by the early morning hours had turned into fear and paranoia.
Her worst fears were confirmed the following morning, Thanksgiving Day, when the body of her son was discovered.
A passerby found ShaKiey near the corner of Leland Avenue and 34th Street on the city's northeast side and alerted officers who were at a nearby gas station. He had been shot, and his death was ruled a homicide by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department. Neighbors in the area reported hearing gunshots during the night, hours before his body was found. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, but as of now, no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified.
ShaKiey, a Black/African American male, was remembered by his family and community as a loving and joyful, albeit sometimes 'wild,' child with a beautiful smile. He was an active and beloved member of the New Breed Of Youth mentoring group, where he was involved in sports, martial arts, and various community initiatives. His death sent ripples of grief through his family, friends, and the mentoring group, who continue to honor his memory and hope for justice. His mother has pleaded for anyone with information to come forward so that her son does not become just another statistic.
