On a cold December evening in Indianapolis in 2013, a burst of violence cut short the life of 23-year-old Dominique Butler. On Saturday, December 28th, police and emergency medical services were dispatched to the 3600 block of North Gladstone Avenue on the city's northeast side following a report of a person shot. Upon their arrival, they discovered Dominique Butler unresponsive, having sustained at least one gunshot wound.
Emergency personnel pronounced him dead at the scene, turning a
residential street into the site of a homicide investigation. Butler was found in the front yard of a home just after 7:30 p.m. His death was one of three unrelated homicides that occurred in Indianapolis on that same day, contributing to a somber weekend in the city.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department detectives canvassed the area and initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Butler's death.
