Patrolman John Harvey Leverett, aged 19, tragically lost his life on June 21, 1916, in Roanoke, Virginia. He was serving as a patrolman with the Roanoke City Police Department at the time of his death. On that fateful day, Patrolman Leverett was executing a warrant on a male suspect. While leading the suspect out of his home, the man managed to retrieve a handgun from a drawer and shot Patrolman Leverett.
