In the quiet suburbs of St. Louis County, Missouri, a dedicated FBI Special Agent's life was cut short in a hail of gunfire on the evening of January 19, 1990. L. Douglas Abram, a 47-year-old male, was a respected member of the law enforcement community, a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, and had served with the Federal Bureau of Investigation for 14 years. On that fateful Friday, Abram and his fellow members of the St. Louis FBI SWAT team were tasked with executing a high-risk federal warrant at a residence on Theiss Road. The warrant was for a search for illegal weapons and drugs. As the highly trained team made their entry into the house around 7:00 p.m., they were met with immediate and violent resistance. An occupant of the house, identified as James Price, opened fire on the entering agents.
In the ensuing chaos, Special Agent Abram was struck by a. 38 caliber handgun round, sustaining a fatal wound to the head. Two other agents were also wounded in the exchange.
