In a tragic incident that shook the community, 14-year-old Rahquan Logan, a Black male, was fatally shot on November 12, 2021, in a quadruple shooting at the OMG Convenience Store in Richmond, Virginia. Known affectionately as 'Oompa,' Rahquan was remembered by his loved ones as a joyful and playful child who had a knack for making people laugh.
The violence that erupted that day also claimed the life of 9-year-old Abdul Bani-Ahmad, whose family owned the convenience store where the
shooting occurred. The devastating event left two other men critically injured. The community was left to grapple with the senseless loss of two young lives, prompting calls for an end to gun violence.
An investigation into the shooting led to the arrests of four individuals: Zayon Everett, Kalah Mangram, Javon Pegram, and Clintoine Baker. Everett was identified as the shooter and was subsequently charged with two counts of first-degree murder, along with other related offenses.
In May 2024, Zayon Everett was sentenced to 56 years in prison for his role in the fatal shooting. Kalah Mangram and Javon Pegram were also found guilty of multiple charges, including first-degree murder. Each was sentenced to over 45 years in prison for their involvement in the crime that cut short the lives of Rahquan Logan and Abdul Bani-Ahmad.
