On a tragic autumn evening in Richmond, Virginia, the life of 20-year-old Sheryl Lyn Stack was cut short. On October 8, 1993, the young, white waitress was the victim of a brutal attack in the parking lot of the Steak & Ale restaurant where she worked. She was shot with a shotgun during an attempted robbery and succumbed to her injuries two days later, on October 10, 1993. Another individual, Edward Martin, was also shot and severely injured during the incident but survived.
The investigation into the violent crime led authorities to Andre L. Graham. Graham was subsequently arrested and faced a litany of charges, including the capital murder of Sheryl Stack, attempted robbery, and the malicious wounding of Edward Martin. His criminal activities were not limited to this single event, as he was also implicated in the murders of another couple in Chesterfield County later that same year.
During his trial, the prosecution presented a compelling case against Graham, leading to his conviction on all charges related to Sheryl's murder. The jury found him guilty of capital murder, attempted robbery, and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Citing his extensive criminal history and the heinous nature of his crimes, the jury recommended, and the court imposed, the death penalty. Graham also received life sentences for his other crimes.
