In the early morning hours of Tuesday, April 19, 1994, the body of Robert McFarland was discovered lying in an alley in the 5800 block of East Hastings Arch in Virginia Beach. Police and rescue personnel, who arrived on the scene at 3:00 a.m., found that McFarland had sustained a gunshot wound to the head. He was a 31-year-old Black male.
Following the discovery, McFarland's body was transported to the State Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy.
The medical examiner determined that the manner of death was a homicide. At the time of his death, Robert McFarland was described as being 6' 3'' tall and weighing 230 pounds, with brown eyes, black hair, a full beard, and a mustache.
The death of Robert McFarland remains an unsolved case. The Virginia Beach Police Department continues to investigate his murder as a cold case homicide. To date, there have been no arrests made in connection with his death, and no suspects have been publicly identified. Authorities are still seeking information from the public that could lead to an arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for this crime.
