On a Tuesday morning, January 3, 2006, the sound of gunfire shattered the calm near the intersection of Old Virginia Beach Road and Barberton Drive in Virginia Beach, Virginia. At approximately 8:30 a.m., police received a report and responded to the scene to find a man lying in the roadway. The man, identified as 34-year-old Shawn Gary John, a Black male who lived near the area, was bleeding and unresponsive. Paramedics pronounced him deceased at the scene.
Subsequent investigation by the authorities determined that Shawn Gary John's death was a homicide caused by a gunshot wound. At the time of his death, he was described as being 5' 10'' tall, weighing 190 pounds, with brown eyes, black receding hair, and he wore prescription glasses. Despite the investigation into his murder, no suspects have been publicly identified, and no arrests have been made in the years following his death.
