In the early morning hours of June 29, 2024, the life of 24-year-old Jesus Alfredo Jeronimo Can was tragically cut short in a fatal shooting at the Atlantis Apartment complex on Atlantis Drive in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Emergency services responded to a call at approximately 3:06 a.m. regarding a gunshot victim and, upon arrival, discovered the male victim deceased at the scene.
The Virginia Beach Police Department's Violent Crimes Unit launched a swift and thorough investigation into
the homicide. Their efforts quickly led to the identification of a suspect, 20-year-old Brian James II, also a resident of Virginia Beach. In less than 24 hours, authorities located and apprehended James.
Later that same evening, around 9 p.m., the Virginia Beach Police Department's SWAT team, in conjunction with the Warrant Fugitive Unit, took Brian James II into custody. He has since been charged with second-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony in connection with the death of Jesus Alfredo Jeronimo Can.
