Daniel Lee "Danny" Overstreet, aged 43, tragically lost his life on September 22, 2000, in Roanoke, Virginia. Overstreet was a victim of a hate crime that occurred at the Backstreet Cafe, a known gay bar in the area. On that fateful night, Ronald Gay, a 54-year-old drifter from Florida, entered the bar and opened fire with a pistol, killing Overstreet and injuring six others.
