In the spring of 2011, the life of Melvin Sharrod 'Nukkie' Edwards, a 29-year-old Black / African American man from Richmond, Virginia, was tragically cut short. On Sunday, April 17, 2011, Edwards became a victim of gun violence, his death marking one of the 37 homicides recorded in the city that year.
