In the winter of 2021, Jashod H. Edwards, a 30-year-old male from Richmond, Virginia, tragically lost his life. On Tuesday, December 21st, events unfolded that led to his untimely death, leaving his family and community seeking answers that remain elusive.
On that late Tuesday morning, at approximately 11:19 a.m., the sterile environment of VCU Medical Center’s emergency room was pierced by the arrival of a private vehicle carrying a gravely wounded Jashod Edwards.
He was suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Richmond Police detectives were called to the hospital and immediately began an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Their preliminary findings determined that the fatal incident had occurred in the 2300 block of Bethel Street. It was from this location that he was driven to the hospital by private means. The Medical Examiner would later officially determine the cause and manner of death.
In the days that followed, the Richmond Police Department publicly identified Jashod Edwards as the victim of the homicide. They appealed to the public for assistance, urging anyone with information to come forward and contact Major Crimes Detective A. Sleem or to anonymously report tips through Crime Stoppers. To date, there have been no public announcements regarding any arrests made or suspects identified in connection with the murder of Jashod Edwards. The investigation into his death remains ongoing as his loved ones continue to mourn their loss. His family held a viewing and funeral service for him in early January 2022, laying him to rest at Oakwood Cemetery.
