In the spring of 2013, the community of Alleghany County, Virginia, was shaken by the disappearance and subsequent discovery of the death of 24-year-old Ashley Kimberlin Rodriguez. A mother of four, Ashley was reported missing on a Monday in mid-May after she failed to arrive for her job at The Golden Living Center in Clifton Forge. This unsettling absence prompted a welfare check at her home, where law enforcement initially spoke with her husband, Adan 'Manuel' Quiroz Rodriguez.
The
search for Ashley came to a tragic end when her body was discovered in a remote area of Alleghany Memorial Park. An investigation revealed that she had died from a gunshot wound to the head. Suspicion quickly fell upon her 29-year-old husband, Adan, who was an employee at the very cemetery where his wife's body was found partially covered in a shallow grave. A warrant for his arrest on a charge of first-degree murder was issued as he became a fugitive.
Following a manhunt, Adan Rodriguez was apprehended in Charlotte, North Carolina, on May 30, 2013, by U.S. Marshals. In addition to the murder charge, he also faced charges of concealing a body and using a firearm in the commission of a felony. Adan Rodriguez ultimately pleaded no contest to the charges against him. In August 2014, he was sentenced to a total of 40 years in prison for the murder of his wife, bringing a legal conclusion to a case that left four children without their parents.
