In the winter of 2014, the life of 39-year-old Nequia S. Davidson was tragically cut short in Chesterfield, Virginia. On the evening of January 12th, a harrowing chain of events unfolded that ended in a murder-suicide at the hands of her husband, 38-year-old Terrell D. Davidson. The couple's relationship had been fraught with turmoil, a fact underscored by an emergency protective order that had been filed against Terrell just a month prior.
That Sunday night, Terrell used his vehicle to force Nequia's car off the road and into a ditch on Mason Avenue in Chester. He then entered her vehicle and shot her. Following this, Terrell contacted 911 to report what he had done, stating his intention to take his own life. By the time law enforcement arrived at the scene, both Nequia and Terrell were found deceased inside Nequia's car. Authorities had been actively searching for Terrell in the hours leading up to the tragedy due to domestic assault warrants.
The devastating incident left behind their five children. Friends and family remembered Nequia as a woman of faith. The tragic event also brought to light Terrell's struggles, as he was a military veteran who had served multiple tours in Iraq and Afghanistan and reportedly suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder.
The grief of Nequia's family was compounded during her burial. As her casket was being lowered, it struck the side of the grave, causing the lid to open. This led to a distressing scene for the mourners and a delay in the burial service. Subsequently, the family filed a lawsuit against the funeral home and cemetery for the additional trauma they endured.
