In the late summer of 2014, the life of a young woman, Delesha C. Bowden, a 27-year-old Black female, was abruptly and violently cut short in her Chesterfield, Virginia home. The tragic events unfolded in the early morning hours of September 10th on Summerbrooke Drive, a setting that belied the turmoil within the Bowden residence. Delesha was a vibrant individual, known for her go-getter attitude and her employment at Union First Market Bank.
She was a daughter, a sister, and an aunt, deeply cherished by her family and friends who would soon be left to mourn her sudden and devastating loss.
The period leading up to Delesha's death was fraught with marital strife. Her husband, Corey Bowden, who was 42 at the time, had been confiding in his son about the problems in his marriage just days before the fatal incident. He was reportedly deeply troubled by the thought of his wife leaving him, grappling with feelings of rejection. Despite seeking guidance from his pastor, Corey's emotional distress escalated, culminating in an act of irreversible violence. In a moment of crisis, he shot Delesha in the head.
