On a late Tuesday evening in Norfolk, Virginia, the life of 21-year-old Chasity Parker was tragically cut short. On July 28, 2015, in the 3300 block of Kimball Terrace in the Grandy Village neighborhood, Chasity was fatally shot while visiting her grandmother's home. Responding to a call shortly after 10:30 p.m., police found her with gunshot wounds. She was rushed to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.
Her 75-year-old grandmother was also injured during the incident but was expected to make a full recovery.
The investigation swiftly pointed to a suspect, Steven T. Williams, who was identified as Chasity's 22-year-old ex-boyfriend. The morning after the shooting, law enforcement, including the Norfolk Fugitive Squad with assistance from Chesapeake Police and the Chesapeake Sheriff's Office Fugitive Squad, located and arrested Williams at a hotel in Chesapeake. He was taken into custody without incident, bringing a swift, though not comforting, development to a grieving family and community. Friends and family remembered Chasity as a sweet, kind, and loving young woman who worked as a hairstylist.
Steven T. Williams faced a litany of charges in connection with the death of Chasity Parker. These included second-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, armed burglary, and shooting into an occupied dwelling. An additional charge of assault and battery was related to the injury sustained by Chasity's grandmother. In October 2015, the second-degree murder charge was certified to a grand jury. Williams was ultimately convicted of the charges related to her death. In January 2017, he was sentenced to a lengthy prison term for his crimes, bringing a measure of justice for a life taken too soon.
