In the early morning hours of an autumn Sunday in Hybla Valley, Virginia, a life was tragically cut short. Jose Anibar Cisneros, a 34-year-old man, was found lying in the 7100 block of Groveton Gardens Road with a gunshot wound to his upper body. The report of a gunshot brought Fairfax County police officers to the scene shortly after 3 a.m. on October 4, 2015.
Cisneros was rushed to a local hospital, but his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead a short time later.
The initial investigation into what was deemed a suspicious death quickly turned into a homicide case. Detectives from the Homicide and Crime Scene units began to piece together the events of that morning, with early reports indicating that two men were seen fleeing the area immediately after the gunshot was heard. For months, the case remained under intense investigation as law enforcement worked to identify those responsible for Cisneros's death.
Nearly ten months later, in July 2016, a significant development emerged in the case. Fairfax County police announced that they had charged 31-year-old Charles Kibler with second-degree murder in connection with the death of Jose Anibar Cisneros. At the time the warrant was served, Kibler was already incarcerated at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center on unrelated charges. Authorities stated that they believed Kibler was the sole suspect in the shooting.
