In the late autumn of 2015, a series of events unfolded in Danville, Virginia, that would tragically end the life of 23-year-old Deron Lanard Evans. On November 23, Evans, a male resident of the city, was shot in the leg. The injury was serious enough to require hospitalization, and he was admitted to the Danville Regional Medical Center for treatment.
While receiving care for his gunshot wound, law enforcement officials attempted to piece together the circumstances that led to the
shooting. However, their investigation was met with an unexpected obstacle. When interviewed by police, Evans was uncooperative. He insisted that the investigation into the shooting be dropped and refused to provide any information about who may have been responsible for his injury. This refusal to cooperate left investigators with very few leads to follow.
Just three days after the initial incident, on November 26, 2015, Deron Lanard Evans succumbed to his injuries and passed away at the hospital. Following his death, the Danville Police Department officially classified the case as a homicide. The investigation into who shot Evans remained open, but the lack of cooperation from the victim before his death presented a significant challenge. To date, there have been no arrests made in connection with the shooting, and no suspects have been publicly identified. The case remains an unsolved homicide.
