In a tragic turn of events that stunned a close-knit Chesapeake, Virginia community, 22-year-old Landon Dooley, a male, was found deceased on Wednesday, January 27, 2016. The discovery of his body was the beginning of a grim unfolding of a domestic tragedy that claimed the lives of six family members. Landon was an honor graduate of Deep Creek High School, class of 2012, and had attended both Old Dominion University and Tidewater Community College.
He was known for his love of the Minnesota Vikings and video games.
The investigation into Landon's death led police to a second home just a block away. There, they found his 26-year-old brother, Cameron Dooley, armed and barricaded inside. After several hours of negotiations, officers entered the residence to find a horrific scene. Cameron had taken the lives of their parents, 50-year-old Steven Todd Dooley and 54-year-old Lori Dooley, their 17-year-old sister, Brooke Dooley, and their 74-year-old grandmother, Doris Dooley.
The medical examiner later confirmed that Landon, his parents, sister, and grandmother all died from gunshot wounds. The investigation concluded that Cameron Dooley was the sole perpetrator in the murder-suicide. After killing his five family members, Cameron died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The motive behind the devastating act remains unclear, leaving a community to mourn the profound loss of an entire family. Their father, Steven Todd Dooley, was a retired Chesapeake Police Officer.
