Just hours before his death, Blizzard, known for his willingness to help others at any hour with his 24/7 mechanic service, had left his home on a service call to assist someone who had locked their keys in their car. His parents recounted that he was a kind-hearted individual, always ready to lend a hand, making the senseless act of violence even more difficult for them to comprehend. His vehicle was found wedged against a fence, facing the wrong way, a stark image of the final moments of his life. While police reported a single gunshot wound, neighbors in the area recalled hearing multiple shots, somewhere between five and ten.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, the Hampton Police Division launched a homicide investigation, appealing to the public for any information that could lead to the identification and arrest of a suspect or suspects. The motive behind the shooting remained unclear, and authorities had no immediate leads or information on who might be responsible for Alex Blizzard's death. Despite the passage of time, the case remains an unsolved homicide, listed on Virginia's cold case database.
