In the summer of 2016, a single act of violence cut short the life of Brian M. King, a 24-year-old male from Richmond, Virginia. On the evening of August 23rd, the sound of gunfire shattered the quiet of the Foxwood Apartments complex. When police arrived at the scene in the 5000 block of Snead Road, they discovered King in a courtyard, suffering from a gunshot wound.
He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal.
The investigation into King's death spanned several years and crossed state lines. For more than three years, the case remained a painful open wound for his family and the community. The persistence of investigators, however, eventually led to a breakthrough. In March 2020, law enforcement officials, including U.S. Marshals, located and apprehended a suspect in Buckeye, Arizona.
The man taken into custody was 34-year-old Darnell D. Lee Jr. He was subsequently charged with murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in connection with Brian M. King's death. Authorities also arrested his girlfriend, 30-year-old Amanda L. Miller, who was charged with being an accessory after the fact for allegedly helping Lee evade capture for an extended period. The arrests brought a long-awaited sense of progress for those mourning the loss of a young man whose life was tragically cut short.
