In the late afternoon of November 3, 2016, the life of 19-year-old DreQuan Tyrell Hubbard was tragically cut short in South Boston, Virginia. A former student at Halifax County High School, where he had played football, Hubbard was discovered inside a black Ford Fusion parked at the Westside Trailer Park on Bane Street. He was suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. The South Boston Police Department responded to the scene around 4:30 p.m.
after residents reported hearing shots fired.
Hubbard was rushed to Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital for medical treatment, but he ultimately succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead later that day. The initial investigation into his death was immediately classified as a homicide, with the South Boston Police Department leading the inquiry, assisted by the Town of Halifax Police Department, the Halifax County Sheriff's Office, and the Virginia State Police.
