On a Monday morning in South Boston, Virginia, 21-year-old Kendall N. Dixon was fatally shot on February 7, 2022. The incident occurred outside the Taylor Lofts apartments on Ferry Street. Dixon had driven to the apartments with another individual when he was shot multiple times with a handgun.
Following the shooting, Dixon was transported to the emergency department at Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital by a private vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
South Boston Police officers responded to reports of shots fired and, upon arrival at the apartment complex, found spent pistol cartridges. Their investigation quickly linked the shooting at the Taylor Lofts to the death at the hospital.
Police identified 21-year-old Jamal L. Brandon of South Boston as the suspect in the shooting. A warrant for first-degree murder was issued for his arrest. The day after the shooting, Brandon turned himself in to the police at the Halifax Regional Adult Detention Center. He is being held without bond.
The investigation suggested the incident was isolated between Dixon and Brandon. Both men were former teammates on the Halifax County High School basketball team. Investigators seized two vehicles connected to the shooting to execute search warrants for potential evidence.
