In the early morning hours of December 1, 2016, the life of 25-year-old Tychelle Johnson, a Black female and mother of three, was tragically cut short in her apartment in the Fulton area of Richmond, Virginia. Police were dispatched to the Ashley Oaks Apartments on Jennie Scher Road around 1:38 a.m. following a report of a shooting. Inside, they discovered Johnson suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
She was pronounced dead at the scene.
A second individual, an adult male, was also found at the scene with a gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and survived. Johnson was remembered by those who knew her as a bright and positive person. Her supervisor at a local Arby's recalled how she would brighten everyone's day at work.
In the wake of her violent death, the community came together to mourn and honor her memory. A candlelight vigil was held, drawing family, friends, and community members who wished to show their support and love for Johnson and her grieving family. Fundraising efforts were also initiated to help provide for her three children who were left without their mother.
Despite the ongoing investigation by the Richmond Police Department and pleas to the public for any information that might lead to a breakthrough in the case, no arrests have been announced in connection with Tychelle Johnson's murder. The case remains open, leaving her family and the community still searching for answers and the justice she deserves.
