Linda Lawson Milam, a 53-year-old Caucasian female, was found deceased in her home, the victim of a violent act that also claimed the life of 57-year-old Mark Steven Duncan. A clerk at the Super 8 Motel, Linda was remembered by her family as a wonderful person who had recently overcome health challenges and was looking forward to celebrating Christmas.
The chain of
events began in the early morning hours when deputies in Pittsylvania County discovered an unresponsive man in a vehicle on Route 29. The man, identified as 25-year-old Dylan Roy Milam, Linda's son, had an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. This discovery led investigators to Linda's residence on Luna Lake Road. Upon arrival, they were met with a house engulfed in flames.
After firefighters extinguished the blaze, the bodies of Linda Milam and Mark Duncan were discovered inside. Both had suffered injuries consistent with gunshot wounds. The ensuing investigation by the Pittsylvania County Sheriff's Office and the Danville Police Department led them to conclude that the incident was a double murder-suicide.
