Betty Jean Barker, aged 21, tragically lost her life on November 14, 1983, in Danville, Virginia. She was working alone at a Kwik Stop market when she was fatally shot by Johnny Watkins Jr. during a robbery attempt. Watkins absconded with a mere $89.89 after committing the crime. Betty was filling in for a sick co-worker on that fateful night.
