On a cold December evening in Hampton, Virginia, the life of 24-year-old Devin Tremaine Jones, a Black/African American male, was tragically cut short. On December 23, 2016, at approximately 10:22 PM, Jones was the victim of a fatal shooting at the intersection of Todds Lane and Whealton Road. Following the incident, he was driven by two male friends in a 2003 Saturn SUV to a local Sentara hospital.
Despite their efforts, Jones was pronounced deceased upon arrival due to a gunshot wound.
Devin, born on March 8, 1992, in Hampton, was remembered as an outgoing and happy young man who lived life to the fullest. He was educated in the Hampton City School Systems and later earned his high school diploma from Job Corp. He had been employed as a customer service representative at Target and as a painter at the Newport News Shipyard. Known for his kindness and compassion, he cherished spending time with his family and friends. A devoted fan of the Chicago Bears, he was also known for his sharp sense of style. He left behind a young daughter and a girlfriend who was expecting their second child.
The Hampton Police Division quickly classified the case as a homicide and launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Despite appeals to the public for information and the collection of witness statements and evidence, the case has remained unsolved. No arrests have been made in connection with the murder of Devin Tremaine Jones, and no suspects have been publicly identified. The investigation remains open as his family and the community continue to seek justice and answers in his untimely death.
