In the summer of 2017, the life of 16-year-old Ketron Wells was tragically cut short. On the evening of June 7th, Ketron and his close friend, 15-year-old Christian Singleton, were walking to a store in their South Richmond neighborhood. The two boys were ambushed and fatally shot in what has been described as a cold and calculated attack. Both teenagers were students in the Richmond Public Schools system.
The incident occurred in the 3600 block of Decatur Street.
Richmond Police responded to a call of random gunfire at approximately 9:53 p.m.. Upon their arrival, they discovered Ketron and Christian lying in the street, both having sustained gunshot wounds. Paramedics were called to the scene, but sadly, both teenagers were pronounced dead at 9:56 p.m..
The investigation into the double homicide has been challenging for law enforcement. Despite the passage of time, no arrests have been made, and the case has been classified as a cold case. Detectives have indicated that they have received some information regarding the murders, but they continue to appeal to the public for more substantial leads that could help them identify and apprehend the person or persons responsible.
Authorities have mentioned the existence of surveillance footage that captured parts of the events leading up to the fatal shooting. The footage reportedly shows an unidentified man directing the two teenagers down a certain street moments before they were confronted by at least two other individuals. Shortly after this encounter, both Ketron and Christian were killed. The case remains an open and active investigation, with law enforcement and the families of the victims still seeking justice for the two young lives lost.
