In June of 2017, a 36-year-old woman named Keisa Overby Staton was found deceased in a Virginia Beach, Virginia, apartment. The discovery was made on June 12th in a residence on Gourmet Way. Authorities soon identified a suspect, 42-year-old Zorobabel Matthan Griggs, who was known to Staton. An investigation was launched, and a warrant was issued for Griggs's arrest on charges of murder and use of a firearm.
