Samuel A. Gee, a 53-year-old Black man, was killed in the early hours of Sunday, July 23, 2017, in Petersburg, Virginia. Around 2 a.m., police were called to the 2700 block of South Crater Road, where they found him suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The night had already gone quiet again by the time officers arrived, but the violence was unmistakable in what was left behind. Gee was pronounced dead at the scene, and the shooting was counted as Petersburg’s seventh homicide of 2017.
