On October 2, 2023, 50-year-old William Henry "JJ" Hayes Jr. of Chesterfield, Virginia, was found deceased from gunshot wounds in a Petersburg neighborhood. The Petersburg Bureau of Police responded to a shooting report near South West Street and Young Avenue just before 8 p.m. Upon arrival, officers discovered Hayes had been fatally shot.
