In the winter of 2018, a family dispute in Stafford, Virginia, ended in tragedy, leaving one brother dead and the other facing murder charges. Christopher Andrew Veronee, a 33-year-old male, was found deceased in his home on Holly Drive on the evening of Tuesday, February 6, 2018. An investigation by the Stafford County Sheriff's Office determined that he had been shot and killed on Monday, February 5, 2018.
The chain of events that brought authorities to Christopher’s residence began
hundreds of miles away in Roanoke, Virginia. Staff at a cold-weather shelter in Roanoke contacted local police about a suspicious individual. This person was identified as Christopher’s younger brother, 21-year-old William Jackson Veronee of Aiken, South Carolina. During his interaction with the Roanoke police, William admitted to shooting and killing his brother in Stafford following an argument.
After the alleged altercation, William fled the scene in his brother's vehicle. His journey came to a halt when the car broke down in the Roanoke area, leading him to the cold-weather shelter where his confession ultimately unfolded.
Upon receiving this information from the Roanoke Police Department, Stafford County Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to Christopher Veronee’s home, where they discovered his body. The stolen vehicle was also recovered by Roanoke police. William Jackson Veronee was taken into custody and subsequently charged with second-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. He was initially held in the Roanoke City Jail.
